The Voice – A Tribute to Mary Travers

Mary Travers, the iconic folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary, was a talented, passionate woman whose career half a century and inspired millions. Here is my tribute to her. The voice she had a voice with the grace of a river, the heavy, nourishing parched land, A voice, which rose like an arrow from a quiver, your goal, where injustice could be found flowed. A voice that was burning a candle to illuminate the darkness in the bold way, a voice, calm, enveloping the room like aQuilt on a cold winter day. Now she is gone, slipped out and oh, how we miss them, but we always have the voice. It was a voice that will be shared, and we heard in mixing the magic of souls intertwined, a voice, if a problem requires repair, caressing Rose, defense, raising the slandered. A voice laughed, rejoiced, like a flower with its end, embracing the sun, a voice that loved so many, a voice whose power remains, however, their time is done here. Because it slipped away, and oh, how we missher, but we always have the voice. Yes, she slipped away, And oh, how we miss them, but we always have the voice. We always have the voice. http://www.epinions.com

All the flowers have Gone – A Tribute to Mary Travers

Tonight I ask, where Peter the flowers are really gone? Mary Travers, of, Paul and Mary passed away Wednesday evening, aged 72, from leukemia at a hospital in Danbury, Connecticut.

An American treasure, an icon, an idol for my generation – Maria was the singer and songwriter of the trio Peter, Paul and Mary, along with their male colleagues, Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey. They began in 1961 at The Bitter End (for those of youdo not recognize the name, is a folk music night spot in New York City in Greenwich Village). The group was the inspiration of manager Albert Grossman, who's create a folk song was super group, while he managed the chart-topping, Bob Dylan. Grossman's idea was certainly good as Peter, Paul and Mary came to symbolize popular music in America for so many of us in the 1960s and from then on.

The trio became one of the most successful popular music groups,Singing classics like "500 Miles", "Leaving on a Jet Plane," "Blowin 'in the Wind" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" In addition, led the epic song of an era and a cause "If I had a Hammer" at the 1963 March on Washington, DC, was where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. kept 's I Have a Dream speech. Peter, Paul and Mary won five Grammys and had 13 Top 40 hits. Their songs crossed generations. "Puff the Magic Dragon," often said, veiled messages about drugs andMarijuana, they were long ago what it was really about … A dragon! And children know and appreciate the song to this day.

For me, Peter Paul and Mary were my college years anthem. As students, between neat fraternities / sororities and burning our bras / Draft cards smart, we lived for their music and the beads around his neck. After having them live on the campus of Florida State University in my first year in the mid-sixties, we went home to our dorms, and collectedin stairwells with our guitars, as we have often. The staircase was groovy echoes that allows our voices sound so much better – especially for me on the top floor, need all the help I could get! That night, however, as we strummed, picked and sang about dragons, flowers and hammers, did we know that Maria had modest admitted to our hospital.

The campus grapevine worked mysterious, however, so we soon found out and rushed there to gather with candles and holdour breath waiting for word. Mary had collapsed from exhaustion was the report that we received, but claimed the rumor (and I say rumor) that she had a miscarriage one.

Your music and Mary's vocals in particular peppered my life in my early adulthood hood. Travelling to the College to Canada with my best friend, my cousin, and his best friend, PP & M and John Denver was on the 8-track! This was a joyful journey soaring – take it for what it meant and you always want to —to me this trip was pure bliss! I had no idea that I would then not only the best friend, but my cousin both brain tumors lose all within the last few months. It is almost surprising, or in some ways surprising to me that Mary Travers has now got cancer and died for all of us too. Not surprising, but oh so heartbreaking.

This evening I will probably pull my old guitar dust off what John Denver taught me in his interpretation of "TheOld Guitar ", that:

"This old guitar taught me to sing a love song

It showed me how to laugh and how to cry

It made me and some friends of mine

And brightened a few days

It helped him through some lonely nights,

Oh, what a friend on a cold and lonely night "

John Denver, also now gone, was a hit, some years later by Peter, Paul and Mary's "Leaving on a Jet Plane", one of my favorites.

The words say far too many, butespecially for me and today especially in the evening. My guitar and the music is associated with-the music of Denver, and Joan Baez, but especially Peter, Paul and Mary spoke to me in those years and in the years since and to this day. Their music has taught me, like "laugh and cry, like". And tonight I call. I weep for the loss of a great lady who meant so much for so many. But I also know their music will live on, and that has put us all rest in peace is something that Mary supported all their lifeand you want to be their legacy.

I hope you get pleasure from a couple of Peter, Paul and Mary's songs …. and my favorite! Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts and if you have some time to hear some of this wonderful music, you will not regret it.

And I want to "leave you with the words of Mary sang" Leaving on a Jet Plane

"Now the time has come to leave you

Once again let me kiss you

Then close your eyes, be sick on myWay.

Dream about the days to come "

Peace.
